Introduction

Control Risks Group, Network Forensics provides high tech solutions to complex problems. Network Forensics is a leading, internationally respected forensic consultancy established in 1990. Now part of the global risk consultancy Control Risks Group, it provides forensic solutions for any part of the world and carries out remote analysis of computers wherever they are based. Control Risks Group is privately owned and independent.

We will carry out an initial assessment of audio and video cases for free, allow direct access to our experts, turn urgent cases round extremely quickly and have the capacity to take on the largest cases.

Our expert teams can respond on-site anywhere in the world 24/7 and are key providers of forensic services to legal, government, civil and commercial organisations worldwide.

Computer Forensics

Control Risks Group, Network Forensics can help at every stage of your case from the planning of a "discovery" or search order, through securing and analysing evidence, to providing advice to counsel in court.

Electronic evidence is easily tainted and computers often hold far more information than is immediately obvious. Network Forensics' Computer Forensics team has extensive experience in handling and analysing computer evidence to support criminal investigations, civil litigation, due diligence and other enquiries.

Peter Yapp, Network Forensics' Deputy Director and senior computer forensic expert, has been carrying out "imaging" and analysis work since 1992. Together with his team, they have dealt with hundreds of cases from around the world. The team are recognised as expert witnesses and are experienced at presenting complex technical computer evidence in a way that courts or tribunals can fully understand.

Audio Forensics

The outcome of legal cases can often be dependent on critical evidence produced from audio recordings; yet this audio evidence is often unclear or recorded against high levels of interfering background noise. In many cases, Network Forensics' audio forensic experts can make dramatic improvements to enhance the quality of these critical recordings. We can determine the authenticity of a tape. We also carry out speaker identification where appropriate.

Control Risks Group, Network Forensics' Director and senior audio expert is Chris Mills, who, with over 20 years' full time practical experience, is one of the world's leading experts in forensic audio.

Video Forensics

Video and CCTV cameras are all pervasive and many incidents are captured on video tape. Control Risks Group, Network Forensics' video laboratories provide the facilities and experienced staff to extract, enhance, interpret and present captured images. Moving image comparison is used where freeze-frame quality is insufficient for positive identification. Photogrammetric size assessments and Facial mapping can be carried out where appropriate.

Mobile Phone Analysis

We have been dealing with mobile phone evidence for a number of years and we understand the sensitivities implicit in extracting information from them. Any interaction with the handset on a mobile phone could result in loss of evidence. We examine the SIM card and the phone itself for evidence of both currently viewable data and deleted data.

Cell Site Analysis

The Forensic Mobile Unit uses leading edge equipment and analytical techniques, previously only available to mobile network operators, to trace and identify the radio footprint markers left by mobile telephone users when making voice calls or sending short messages.

The specific location, direction and speed of travel whilst making calls or sending short messages can be determined, as well as identifying where the call could not have been made from. Therefore the footprint left by mobile handsets being used prior to, during and after criminal activity are vital to many criminal investigations.

The team are well placed to supply both written and oral evidence to support the prosecution or the defence.

3D reconstruction and visualisation

The Evidential Presentations Unit visually reconstruct crime scenes, sites or events using both 2D and 3D plans and animation. These visual representations can be instrumental in aiding understanding of a chain of events and help to piece together the specific actions and positions of the individuals involved. The team produce clear, technically accurate presentations and can work within extremely tight deadlines, if necessary.
